Room101 Big Payback 70s Maduro cigars are made in Honduras with a U.S. Broadleaf wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder, and filler tobaccos from Honduras and the Dominican Republic. The cigar measures an enormous seven inches in length with a 70 ring gauge. These cigars became available in August 2024, and are priced at $8.99 per stick. The sample Room101 Big Payback 70s Maduro cigar began with a modest sweet and earthy flavor. The smoke was medium-to-full bodied, and not at all overpowering. These flavors held on for about 50 minutes into the smoking session. During that time, a minor touch-up was needed at the 30-minute mark to keep the burn even, and a very long ash finally fell off by itself at the 45-minute point. About five minutes after that, the flavor began evolving into a more citrus and cedar taste, as the sweet earthy flavor began fading away during the subsequent 20 minutes. A mostly cedar taste then remained pretty consistent beyond that point.
After 85 minutes of smoking time, I ashed the cigar for only the second time, before the ash would have fallen of by itself. A second touch-up light was also applied at this time. I continued smoking the cigar for another 35 minutes, all the way down to 1¾ inches remaining when it finally went out by itself, making for a total smoke time of 120 minutes.
The Big Payback 70s Maduro cigar was very well made and had a good draw, mostly even burn, and held a very long ash. The cigar was only ashed twice during the 120 minutes that it took me to smoke. No relights were required, and only two touch-ups needed during the two-hour smoking session.
The Room101 Big Payback 70s Maduro is a very good cigar and a great value for only $8.99 per stick. The cigar's very large size could be its most obvious negative attribute, unless you have the time to smoke one cigar for two whole hours. Personally, I would rather smoke two different one-hour cigars back-to-back when I have a couple of hours to “burn”. Despite its humongous size, I am still rating the Room101 Big Payback 70s Maduro cigar with a very good 4 points on a 5-point scale.
