Rocky Patel's Twentieth Anniversary Maduro Cigar actually debuted in 2017, but you can still get them from Holt’s Cigar Company and Mike’s Cigars. Cigars International no longer has them.
This is a great blend of Honduran wrapper, Nicaraguan and Honduran binder and fillers. The
maduro wrapper is from the Danli, Honduras in the Jamastran Valley close to the border of
Nicaragua. It is a true medium cigar because of its smoothness.
Draw and Construction
The wrapper is a nice brown leaf with no flaws that I could see. The draw had the perfect
resistance before and after lighting it. I used a punch to open the cigar. It lights easily and
burns even. The ash is a bit flaky but more important is that it will not go out even if you set it
down for short while, which I did several times while writing this review. It does burn rather
quickly at about 1” every 10 minutes, so, you can get close to an hour without burning your
fingers.
Flavor and Aroma
This cigar really delivers with flavors ranging from pepper to dark roast coffee and a very small
amount of woodiness. The aroma matched up with the flavor. If you like to retro-hale prepare
yourself for a full dose of red pepper that stings a bit if you are not prepared. A second attempt
was a little less of a shock, but I am not a fan of this style of smoking. The flavors and aromas
were consistent though out the entire cigar with a tad more spice near the end.
Value?
I got this cigar in a special offer (now expired) from CigarPage.com. It was one of a variety of 10 sticks for $15. This is an excellent cigar having an MSRP of over $11 per stick. The Rocky Patel 20th Anniversary Maduro cigar delivers on all aspects of what makes an enjoyable smoking experience. I would purchase one again if I saw it in a local shop.
