Review of Los Statos Deluxe Cigar

By: Gary Manelski

In July 2022, Los Statos Deluxe cigars received an extreme makeover, due in part to Matt Booth who joined General Cigar as a creative director in June 2022. Matt and his team also revamped the entire line of Sancho Panza Cigars, which were previously reviewed. Los Statos Deluxe cigars are made in Honduras with an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and a blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican filler tobaccos. LSD cigars are available in four vitolas, including a Robusto (5 x 50) priced at $8.49, which is the subject of this review. For more information about these cigars, please check out the press release.

The sample Los Statos Deluxe Robusto began with an obvious pepper flavor, which was joined by a hint of natural tobacco sweetness after the first five minutes. The pepper backed down after 10-15 minutes, when a subtle coffee flavor emerged, becoming more noticeable after another five minutes. At the 30-minute mark, leather started to become the predominate flavor with notes of pepper in the background, which lasted for the remaining duration of the cigar. The smoke was between medium and medium-to-full bodied, so let's just call it medium-plus.

It took me a total of 40 minutes to smoke the LSD Robusto cigar down to two inches remaining. During that time, the cigar had a good draw, held a medium-to-long ash, and had an even burn. No relights nor touch-ups were required.

I rate the Los Statos Deluxe Robusto cigar with a good enough 3.75 points on a 5-point scale. It's not a bad smoke for a somewhat obscure brand, but LSD has some pretty stiff competition from other premium cigars in the same price range.

Disclosure: Review samples were provided by the manufacturer.
