El Rey del Mundo Shade Grown cigars are Honduran puros, made in Honduras entirely with Honduran tobaccos. The cigar features a Connecticut-seed wrapper that is grown in Honduras. Starting in July 2023, these cigars are being distributed by Forged Cigar Company and are available in three sizes, including a limited edition Lonsdale (6 x 54) priced at $5.89 per cigar. Also available are regular production Robusto (5.5 x 50) and Toro (6 x 52) vitolas priced at $5.99 and $6.29, respectively. The Robusto size is the subject of this review. The sample El Rey del Mundo Shade Grown Robusto began with tastes of some natural tobacco sweetness along with hints of spice. After a couple of minutes, a nutty flavor emerged and joined the mix. The body was mild-to-medium, and the taste was very pleasant and enjoyable. Although this cigar would be a great choice for newer cigar smokers, it is also suitable for all levels of cigar aficionados.
After 15 minutes into the smoking session, a creamy flavor emerged as the texture of the smoke also became smoother and creamier. A minor touch-up was applied at this point, just to keep the burn perfectly even. The cigar was very well made and had a very good draw, mostly even burn, and held a medium-to-long ash.
At the 25-minute mark, a taste of leather began to develop as the natural sweetness at the beginning continued to fade, but notes of spice were still present. The flavor was pretty much consistent beyond this point until the very end, but at the 30-minute point, a second minor touch-up was applied.
After smoking the El Rey del Mundo for a total of 45 minutes, it went out with two inches remaining, which is not unusual for a Robusto size cigar. I enjoyed the first half of this cigar a bit more than the second half, and rated each half with 4.25 and 4 points on a 5-point scale, respectively.
Overall, a very good to superior rating of 4+ points is most appropriate. Again, the El Rey del Mundo Shade Grown Robusto was very well made, the flavors were very enjoyable, and the cigar was far from being overpowering or intimidating, making it a great choice for all levels of cigar smokers.
