Review of Bolivar Aniversario Cigar

By: Gary Manelski

Review of Bolivar Aniversario limited-edition cigar made in Honduras with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Brazilian binder, and a blend of filler tobaccos from Paraguay, Argentina, Columbia and Brazil. These cigars became available during March 2026 in one Toro size (6 x 52) priced at $9.99 per stick. For more information about these cigars, please see the press release.

The sample Bolivar Aniversario Toro cigar began with a woodsy and spicy flavor that was just a bit unusual during the initial several puffs, but then quickly “normalized” into a more recognizable combination of cedar and spice within about the first five minutes. I was anticipating some unusual flavors from the non-traditional filler tobaccos used in this cigar but for the most part, those flavors were largely confined to the first few minutes. The flavors remained pretty consistent during remainder of the cigar, with cedar being the predominate taste accompanied by a moderating spice. The body of the smoke was medium-to-full.

I ashed the cigar for the first time after 20 minutes, and then applied a minor touch-up. The second ashing came 20 minutes later, and there were no burn issues thereafter. No relights were needed, and the cigar held a medium-to-long ash and had a very good draw during the 60 minutes that it took me to smoke down to two inches remaining.

Except during the first few minutes, the flavors of the Bolivar Aniversario cigar were not too unusual, unlike those old Foundry cigars that also used non-traditional tobaccos. The flavor in the Bolivar was more like some of the more innovative CAO cigars that are typically just a bit different. Overall, I rate the Bolivar Aniversario with a good to very good 3.75 points on a 5-point scale. It will be interesting to see how the flavor of these cigars might change after a bit more aging.
