Review of Dunhill Signed Range Seleccion Suprema Cigar
By: Gary Manelski
Debuting in October 2015, the new Dunhill Signed Range Selección Suprema is a super premium cigar having a price tag of $20 per stick. This cigar is being produced in limited quantities and in only one Toro size (6 x 50). The cigar is made with a Nicaraguan Jalapa shade wrapper, Connecticut Broadleaf binder, and a blend of Nicaraguan Esteli, Nicaraguan Jalapa, and Brazilian Matafina filler tobaccos. The Seleccion Suprema is the brand's most exclusive cigar to date, and was created to commemorate the 80 year anniversary of Dunhill's Don Candido line of cigars. For more details, see the press release.
The sample cigar began with a very pleasant, rich, and full tobacco flavor with notes of sweetness and spice. The smoke was smooth and well balanced. After a few minutes, a slight earthy taste also emerged to compliment the flavors at the start, which lasted throughout the duration of the smoke without fading. It took me 75 minutes to smoke the cigar down to two inches remaining. During that time, the cigar had a very good draw, held a long ash, and burned evenly (for the most part). One minor touch-up light was applied around the 50-minute mark to keep the burn even.
I found the Dunhill Signed Range Seleccion Suprema to be a superior cigar deserving of a rating of 4.25 points on a 5-point scale. As with many other cigars in its price range, I recommend trying just one as a special treat. These cigars will be available in attractive 8-count boxes, which would make for a great gift. But again, if buying for yourself, sample and enjoy a single cigar first.
December 2015 Update: A second Dunhill Seleccion Suprema cigar was sampled about 2½ months after my original review. The Dunhill was sampled right after smoking a different cigar that previously earned a 5-star rating, and compared more favorably than I anticipated. Since I enjoyed the second Dunhill Seleccion Suprema more than the first, I'm upping my rating to 4.5 points.
