Smoking Cigars on the Carnival Breeze

By: Gary Manelski

As time goes on, the amenities and number of designated areas for smoking cigars on cruise ship vacations continue to “sink”. On a May 2015 cruise on the Carnival Breeze, there was only one place to smoke cigars, and that place was outdoors on Deck 5, in an area of the ship's port side called the Lanai. Cigar smoking was NOT permitted anywhere on the inside of the Carnival Breeze, although cigarette smokers still had three indoor options (two bars and the casino), as well as two outdoor alternatives (on decks 5 and 11). Smoking of any kind is not allowed in guest cabins nor on balconies.

The Carnival Breeze is a newer ship built in 2012, and does not have a defunct cigar bar like some of Carnival's older boats. However, those older boats usually allow cigar smoking in one of their smaller nightclubs at the back of the ship, as well as in one or two designated areas outdoors. Since the Carnival Breeze does not have an indoor cigar area, a few premium cigars were available for purchase at the Ocean Plaza Bar on the inside of the ship, adjacent to the Lanai. Of course, it is always better to bring along some of your own cigars to smoke during your cruise vacation.

Smoking policies on cruise ships are constantly changing (and not for the better), so always check with your cruise line or travel agent to find out if cigar smoking is permitted, before booking your next cruise vacation.
