Review of Ashton Cameroon Small Cigars

By: Gary Manelski

Small cigars can deliver enjoyable tobacco flavors in a shorter amount of time and for a lower price than full size cigars. They may not be as complex, but often contain some of the same tobaccos as their larger counterparts. Small cigars are not brown cigarettes and do not have tips, filters nor other non-tobacco components. They should be smoked like large cigars and not inhaled.

Ashton Small Cigars Cameroon are available in four sizes, the largest of which is the Half Corona (4.125 x 37) that is typically priced at $13.99 for a pack of five cigars. These cigars are not individually wrapped nor box pressed, and do not have bands. They are open on both ends, so no cutter is needed. The cigars are made with a Cameroon wrapper and Dominican filler tobaccos. For more info about these cigars, visit AshtonCigar.com.

After one week in a humidor, the first sample Ashton Cameroon Small Cigar was still not ready to be smoked. Do not smoke these cigars right out of the box, as they need a few weeks of aging to improve. The smoke from the first sample was mild-to-medium bodied and the first couple of puffs delivered a decent and naturally sweet tobacco flavor, but after that, a sour flavor emerged and lasted for the remainder of the smoke. The cigar burned evenly and had a very good draw, and took me 25 minutes to smoke down to 1½ inches remaining. However, this was not a pleasant nor satisfying smoking experience.

After an additional week in the humidor, the taste of the samples improved significantly. Only a few occasional sour notes were now present, but not enough to keep the smoke from being at least somewhat enjoyable. One more week in the humidor was enough to eliminate the sour taste, and the cigars were now ready to be fully enjoyed. They delivered a naturally sweet tobacco flavor during the first couple of minutes followed by an enjoyable mild spicy flavor for the remainder of the smoke.

Ashton Cameroon Small Cigars are not overpowering, do not take a long time to smoke, and don't even require a cigar cutter. This not only makes them a good choice for new cigar smokers, but also for more seasoned smokers who might be short on time and/or who just prefer a mild inexpensive cigar once in a while. They are much less expensive than larger Ashton cigars, but can cost a bit more than the small cigars produced by some other brands. However, Ashton small cigars are not the most expensive on the market and are well worth the price.
