Review of Partagas Decadas 2020 Cigar
By: Gary Manelski
Partagas Limited Reserve Decadas 2020 cigars are made with Cameroon wrappers that have been aged for more than 10 years. The filler leaves are from the Dominican Republic and Mexico, and are bound by a Mexican San Andres binder. The Decadas 2020 is available in one size called Dalia (6¾ x 43), and is priced at $17.99 per cigar. These cigars became available in November 2020, and will be sold only through brick and mortar retailers. For more information, please see the official press release.
The sample Partagas Decadas 2020 cigar began with a subtle natural tobacco sweetness, and was extremely mellow. Similar to the Partagas Decadas 2019 from last year, I also detected a very pleasant tea-like flavor during the first few minutes. The cigar was medium bodied, but slightly fuller than the 2019 edition. The 2020 cigar is made with a different blend, but uses the same Cameroon wrapper. The smaller ring gauge (43 vs 49) also brought out more of the wrapper's flavor this year.
As the Partagas Decadas 2020 cigar continued to be smoked, a cedar flavor that was barely noticeable at the beginning became more prominent after about 25 minutes, and continued to gradually become more intense after that. By the 80-minute mark, the flavor was mostly cedar.
It took me 95 minutes to smoke the sample cigar down to two inches remaining. During that time, the cigar had a good draw which delivered a decent amount of smoke (considering the relatively small ring gauge), had an even burn, and held a medium-to-long ash. No touch-ups were necessary, but a couple of relights were needed at the 60 and 80-minute marks.
I found the Partagas Decadas Limited Edition 2020 Dalia to be a very elegant and enjoyable smoke. I liked the first half of the cigar more than the second half, but it was still worthy of an overall superior rating of 4.25 points on a 5-point scale. Based on the quality and price of the Partagas Decadas 2020, it can be considered a super premium cigar.
